What to look for in a Shiba rescue

  • Breed-experienced screeners. A rescue that asks about fence height, prey drive tolerance, and recall realism understands Shibas.
  • Foster-based, not kennel-based. Shibas decompensate fast in kennel environments. Foster homes give a more honest behavioral picture.
  • Written intake and adoption agreements. Verbal handshakes leave both sides exposed.
  • An honest return policy. Reputable rescues take dogs back if a placement fails.
  • Realistic expectations. A rescue that promises a "great family dog" without questions is overselling the breed.
