NorCal Shiba ("we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under California privacy law.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide when you:
- Submit an adoption application (name, address, phone, email, household
details, housing information, prior pet history, references).
- Sign a Household Acknowledgment (name, date of birth, contact information,
relationship to applicant).
- Sign a Meet-and-Greet Waiver, Adoption Agreement, Surrender Intake
Agreement, or Lifetime Placement Promise Addendum (the information described in each document).
- Submit a contact form on this Site.
- Subscribe to our email list.
- Join The Pack membership.
- Make a payment.
We also collect:
- Information automatically gathered when you visit the Site (IP address,
device type, browser, pages viewed, referrer).
- Information from third-party services we use (analytics, payment
processing, email delivery).
2. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Review and process your adoption or surrender application.
- Verify information you provide (references, landlord, veterinarian).
- Schedule meet-and-greets and complete placements.
- Process payments.
- Communicate with you about your application, your dog, or our services.
- Send you content you have requested (email newsletter, training guide,
Pack membership content).
- Maintain records required by our business operations and applicable law.
- Improve our Site and services.
3. How we share information
We share information with:
- Service providers who help us operate (payment processor, email service,
analytics).
- Veterinary, foster, and trainer partners as necessary to facilitate care
and placement.
- Legal authorities when required by law (court order, subpoena, regulatory
request).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with advertisers.
4. Your California privacy rights
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how we use it.
- Request a copy of the personal information we have about you.
- Request that we delete personal information we have about you (subject to
exceptions, including legal record-retention requirements).
- Opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell).
- Not face discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

5. Record retention
We retain adoption and surrender records, including signed agreements, for the lifetime of the dog plus 7 years. This retention period supports our ongoing commitments under the Adoption Agreement and Lifetime Placement Promise, and meets legal record-keeping requirements.
Other personal information is retained as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
6. Children
Our services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy at any time. The "Last updated" date will reflect the most recent change.
